Long-billed Curlew (Numenius americanus)

This is a very worn adult photographed on the California coast in mid-summer. The pale notches in many of scapulars are completely abraded leaving only the darker bars and midline of the feather. Three teritials appear fresher than the others. Th bill and face are covered in mud.
