Variable Oystercatcher (Haematopus unicolor)
Range: New Zealand

An endemic and considered threatened. The only oystercatcher that is polymorphic (different genetic variants), with plumage colour variations ranging from pied to black. Prefers coastal environments such as sandy beaches and spits.
